Her mom stopped eating for a moment, her face turned to stone, and with a serious voice explained, "No dear there's another story way before the Zodiac murder and some say that's what attracted the Zodiac to come to that road in the first place." "There's a story of an unrested soul lurking around the lake."

I couldn't help but continue to listen as I slowed down eating my meal.

"Mom! There's opportunity there!" She just looked at her daughter with a nervous scared look and shook her head. "Not another word out of you young lady! You have to respect those with a lost soul."

Now I was really interested, I was all ears. She didn't strike me as a very superstitious type person at first. Her and her daughter looked like well educated African American women, that's why it surprised me.

The mom continued to lecture, "Many people have seen a woman in white on the road, and in near by places, accompanied by a strange mist. They say she is lost, trying to find her way, waiting for a love that never returned. Her and her boyfriend would frequent the area picnicing and dreaming of future plans together. They were both very young barely out of their teens and her boyfriend was soon to be departing for the war.... He never returned"

By this time the waiter had come to my table and brought the check, and asked if there's anything else, I told him, "I just want another mango lasse drink", because I wanted to stay and listen to the rest of the story.

As I refocused on the conversation, I already missed part of the story. The mom continued, "And that's why she wanders the area and is seen walking up and down the road." Soon after, they finished their dinner and were on their way out. I couldn't stop thinking about what the reason was.

As I left the restaurant, I couldn't help but feel the heebee jeebees on my way home. That tingling feeling runs down your spine when you just heard a ghost story and are extremely sensitive to everything around you. Eh, I just shrugged it off and headed for home to get a good night's sleep.

Living alone is no fun. Still need to get used to it. Miss the feeling of having the wife and kids within a hug's reach. A house is a home with someone to love and share it with. It becomes a tomb waiting to engulf you in grief. It's a harsh reality to wake up to, being alone.

I had difficulty sleeping, so I might open a new bottle of Japanese sake. I've been drinking a lot of that lately. It helps to try to sleep at night. Going to need a bit extra tonight... Good night!

"Damn!" Forgot to set the alarm, I'm going to be fucking late again, shit! Just started this job, and I could have made a better impression. Well, that's what you get when you drink your ass to sleep every night. I really need to stop this and get back into the gym.

Thank God it's Friday! I'm about an hour late for work and called in and made up a lame excuse of having car problems. The supervisor doesn't like me much, but I don't care; I'm under contract for at least 3 months. It doesn't take me long to find another job, but it looks like I will stay late at work to make up time.

It's not easy when suddenly you're fending for yourself, especially after being married for so long. Still, have a hard time in the mornings getting used to it.

My work is on the other side of town in the industrial park area, and Lake Herman Road is like a back road shortcut to my neighborhood. I've been up and down that road a few times at evening dusk and never thought anything about a ghost haunting the road, but the road must be a little spooky to drive through late at night.

Stayed late at work to make up the time missed this morning. I'm behind on my project, so I got carried away and worked till I was caught up. But when do you ever catch up, really? In any event, I hate to leave things undone for the weekend, so I stayed until I finished the project I was working on.

It was damn near 9pm when I left, and it was beginning to drizzle outside.
I got into my car, and all I could think about was grabbing something quick to eat at a drive-thru, getting home, and relaxing.

Got some hamburgers at Jack in the Box, and it was still drizzling cold outside. As I drove out of the restaurant, I wasn't paying attention to the road while eating my French fries, and I missed the freeway exit and found myself on the side roads, so I figured, what the heck, why turn around? I'll just keep going and take the back roads.

Still new to the area, I needed to figure out where exactly I was. The drizzling stopped, so I didn't need the windshield wipers anymore. It was dark and wet on the road, and when I finally was close enough to read the street sign, I was surprised I was already at Lake Herman Road.

As I turned into Lake Herman Road and drove a little ways, I noticed a mist beginning to form along the hillside, almost spilling over onto the road. As I drove by the mist, it swirled behind me. It was dark, and there were no lights. I don't know if there was a blackout, but it just made it spookier.

I kept driving and looking back at the swirling mist behind me, and suddenly, what caught the corner of my eye seemed like a hand coming out of the mist reaching towards the back window.

OH SHIT! When I saw that, I hauled ass and didn't look back! I must have reached 100 mph but was determined to reach the street lights before I slowed down.

Maybe it was my imagination, especially after hearing about that ghost that haunted this road, but I wasn't about to stop and find out firsthand. I kept looking back after I got closer to Vallejo, and the mist had disappeared.

Felt so much better when I finally hit Columbus Parkway, and all the street lights were on. Finally, I slowed down and stopped at the street light, waiting for it to turn green. What a relief, and then I thought it was just my imagination playing tricks on me. Finally, I reached my house, opened the garage door, and parked my car inside. Felt secure ..........., for now.
